Our visit to Brenner Brewing coincided with an event they were having and it was a bit crowded. A blues band was playing and part of the brewery concept is an adjacent art gallery, both seemed to be drawing plenty of interest from the crowd. As it was a bit loud in the small space, and no room to sit, we got a couple pints and didn’t stay long. I especially enjoyed the Bacon Bomb Rauchbier, which uses a blend of German beechwood and Wisconsin cherrywood smoked malts, Noble German hops, chocolate wheat, and fresh black pepper. More than the pumpkin beer craze, I find a nice smoked beer a delicious fall treat. The owner/brewer Mike Brenner studied at Siebel in Chicago and Doemens in Germany and clearly knows how to make good beer. When we make our way back to the area, we’d love to try more of their beer and stop in when perhaps its not quite as busy.
